Crack Abuse Signs
Identifying whether a person is a Crack Addict can sometimes be rather difficult to identify, especially if they take the substance secretly. However, there are several signs that can be used to warn an individual that a certain person is abusing the substance.
When Crack is taken in excess, it creates many problems to the user’s family. The fast addiction, high availability, and affordability of Crack makes it a widely abused drug. The substance is taken through inhalation so there are no needle marks or bleeding nasal cavities to look out for. However, being in possession of drug paraphernalia is one of the main signs that should warn you that an individual is abusing the substance. If you come across an individual with a glass pipe it is used in smoking Crack, you should be wary of that person’s addiction.
Psychologically, the addict exhibits reduced concentration, drive, and ambition; The person may also appear confused. Doing tasks that require motor coordination, such as driving machinery, becomes impossible for the person.
Patients undergo severe mood swings when addicted to Crack. One moment they are extremely happy after taking Crack ,and then the next moment they become extremely moody. Crack induces production of Dopamine in the brain, which gives the user a ‘feel good’ feeling for about ten minutes. Once that dose taken subsides, the patients go back to the sullen mood.
When an individual starts suffering from cocaine psychosis, you should be wary of the substances they are taking. For instance, addicts start getting affected by conditions such as hallucinations and paranoia where the patient feels like there are insects and snakes crawling beneath the skin.
Another common sign you should not miss is obsession of the person to having Crack. The patients have devising methods in which to acquire a regular supply of the substance. Crack maintains its high effect for about 10 minutes; hence, the addict will keep devising methods for acquiring more supplies of the substance.
Given that addicts have to keep taking fresh doses after every few minutes, their social relationship is also affected. People, who used to be very social, pull back and just prefer to stay on their own so that they can take the drugs without being questioned by colleagues. Absconding from regular duties such as their job, school, and other social situations becomes the order of the day.
Abnormal pleasure and hyper-alertness that lasts for short periods are other signs that should caution you. An individual also feels an increased sense of well-being that also lasts for short periods. After a person has taken Crack, they tend to gain an indifferent mood even when they are faced with a dilemma, while others become sociable and talkative for about 15 minutes after which the excited mood disappears and is replaced by the anxious and sullen atmosphere.
Lastly, change in financial pattern is indispensable. Addicts start borrowing from friends under false claims, neglecting their loved ones, writing false checks, acquiring salary advances and after all the legitimate ways of acquiring cash fail, they turn to stealing. Crack is cheaper than many illegal drugs, but since it only lasts for short periods of time, it compels the user to keep purchasing more thereby creating financial stress.
